Transport fares hiked as transport resumes in Kagadi

Kagadi-Taxi and bus operators in Kagadi district have increased fares after the ban on private and public transport in border districts was lifted.

Addressing the nation on monday, President Museveni announced that public and private transport in selected border districts should resume except Amuru, Rakai, Kyotera, Buikwe, Gulu, Arua, Adjumani, Moyo and Nebbi which have registered the highest cases of coronavirus.    

On Tuesday, transport fares from various routes like Kagadi-Kyenjojo,Kagadi-Hoima and Kagadi-Kampala were increased.

The chairperson of Taxi drivers in Kagadi taxi Park, Abiola Matia Musoke explains that transport for  Kagadi-Kampala was increased from  Shs25, 000 to shs40, 000, Kagadi-Hoima from Shs20, 000 to between shs25, 000 and 30,000 likewise from Kagadi to Fort portal Municipality in order to balance the vacate seats.

He says they have tightened Precautions and guidelines put by the Ministry of Health of carrying half Capacity, wearing of Face Masks, use of sanitizers to control the spread of Corona Virus.

The director of Kasamba Coaches in Kagadi, John Kambiriti explained that also Kasamba Coach Bus have resumed its operation but at lower transport fees compared to taxis.

He says from Muhooro to Hoima the fares stand at shs15, 000 and shs 35,000 is for travellers from Muhorro to Kampala.

He says setoff time has changed from 3am to 6am in order to manage curfew time.

Although the drivers of Kagadi taxi Park are decrying limited passengers, they have expressed gratitude to the government for lifting the lockdown.
