Police identifies Man who brought human head to parliament

Police has identified the young man who was today intercepted at parliament carrying a human head allegedly taking it to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

The suspect identified as Joseph Niwashaba (22 years) a resident of Masajja Busabala, Wakiso District, was intercepted by security at the eastern gate of parliament just opposite National Theater with a human head in a box packaged as a “gift” allegedly for the speaker.

There was commotion and heightened security as police officers arrested Niwashaba following the discovery that the “gift” was a fresh human head after security insisted on opening the box.

The suspect was immediately arrested and whisked away to Kibuli CID Headquarters as investigation teams embarked on the case to ascertain the source of the head and the motive behind Niwashaba’s move.

It is alleged that the suspect pleaded that he was sent by other people to deliver the “gift.”

According to the CID Police spokesperson CP Charles Atwine, the suspect is still under interrogation to trace the origin of the human head which looks to be of a juvenile.

Atwine said police suspects that the victim could be a child who was reportedly murdered in Kijjabwemi in Masaka and the head cut off. He said police is trying to match DNA strands of the trunk and the head and the the moment the results match, the suspect will be charged with murder of the kid.

It has not been yet established if Niwashaba is a serial offender or he was sent by other people as alleged.

Apparently, the head has been taken to Mulago Hospital mortuary while the suspect is still under interrogation as part of the investigations to ascertain his motive.
