Masindi-A female inmate has reportedly been killed by a fellow inmate at Masindi government prison on Tuesday afternoon.
Frank Baine the prisons spokesperson identified the deceased as Betty Nyesigire who has been on remand for murder and the suspect as Joan Bainomugisa, who is on a 19 year jail sentence for the same offence.
“Both are residents of Hoima district.
Nyesigire who has been taking care of Bainomugisa who was isolated from the other inmates after developing a mental problem entered Bainomugisa’s room where she hit her with a blunt object and killed her instantly,” Baine added.
Baine added that as the prison authorities counted the number of the inmates on Tuesday evening they realized that Nyesigire was missing only to find her lying dead in a pool of blood in Bainomugisa’s room.
Baine revealed that Bainomugisa had been sentenced for murdering her husband and feared that she could be a serial killer.
The same woman had been convicted for murdering her husband.
He added that Nyesigire’s body had been taken to Masindi main hospital by police for a postmortem and thereafter be transferred to Hoima for burial.
The Albertine region police spokesperson Allan Hakiza confirmed the reports when contacted but said he did not have details about it.
