BUNYORO KITARA KINGDOM HOSTS GULU UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS

A team of senior officials from Gulu University have paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Owek Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi.

The delegation was led by Associate Prof. David Okello Owiny, the Gulu University Deputy Vice Chancellor.

The delegation appreciated the Kingdom for entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with Gulu University that has enabled some students from Bunyoro to attain university education from the Gulu University Hoima campus.

Over 300 students have graduated at the campus since it opened in 2015.

They informed the Prime Minister that the process of accrediting the campus is underway in order to improve on the services offered at the campus.

The Prime Minister appreciated their visit and asked them to continue implementing their obligations as indicated in the MOU with the Kingdom.

He informed them that efforts were underway to kick start a Bunyoro Public University and asked all stakeholders to work together in that regard.

He said Bunyoro will benefit more if it attains a Public University.

Bunyoro is the only region in Uganda that lacks a Public University.

In 2014, Census statistics indicated that only 0.8% of the population in Bunyoro aged 18 and above had University education.
