Kibaale education officials grilled over continued school dropout

The Kibaale district public accounts committee led by Godfrey Muwonge yesterday grilled officials from district education department over increasing cases of school dropout and low completion rates.

The   district education officials led by the senior education officer Kibaale Seth Ahebwa on Tuesday 10 12 2019 appeared before the district public accounts committee to answer Auditor general’s queries about high school dropout and low completion rates in primary schools.

According to the auditor’s report, out of the twelve schools sampled in the district which includes Kasambya parents primary school in Bwamiramira sub county shows that in 2013, forty seven pupils were in primary four at Kasambya parents primary school and by 2016, but only 5 pupils were able to seat for Primary Living Examinations.

Appearing before the committee, the senior education officer Kibaale Seth Ahebwa attributed the vice to poor management and monitoring of schools.

He was however quick to say that the education department has trained the parish chiefs to ensure there is proper monitoring of schools.

“The challenge has been poor monitoring and management of schools, but the good news is that we have trained parish chiefs to ensure proper monitoring, says Ahebwa”

PAC members Led by their chairperson Muhonge Godfrey Kasanga tasked the education department to establish the whereabouts of the dropouts to enable the responsible officials to take the necessary actions.

“Always have a track record to enable monitors follow up on the school dropouts so that they can look for ways of curbing the vice,Muhongo told Aheebwa”.
