Two Firearms Burnt in Police House

Security authorities in Hoima district are investigating the burning of two guns in Hoima police barracks.

The two sub-machine guns allegedly got burnt in the wee hours of Monday morning when fire gutted two grass thatched houses belonging to Field Force Unit-FFU officers.

Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima Resident District Commissioner-RDC told Uganda Radio Network on Tuesday that they are investigating Simon Odongkara and Francis Omara, both attached to FFU.

According to Kisembo, the two officers left their guns in the burn houses and left for unknown places on Monday night.

He says the officers returned only to find their houses burnt together with the firearms.

The gun belonging to Omara registration number 565900389 had 30 rounds of ammunition while the one belonging to Odongkara had 90 rounds of Ammunition.

Other items that got burnt in the houses include four pairs of FFU Uniforms, five pairs of police gumboots and two national Identity cards among others.

He wonders why the officers left the guns in their houses instead of depositing them in the Armory as required.

Kisembo says the two police officers are currently being held at Hoima central police station for thorough interrogations.

The Albertine Region Police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza declined to comment on the matter when contacted by our reporter.
