The Agricultural department in Kole District Local Government has revealed that there is no money budgeted for to fight the desert locusts that invaded the district. The locusts have been sighted in Amin-tato ‘B’ village in Alito Sub County.
Geoffrey Ameny, the chairperson LCIII of the area says the matter was reported to the District awaiting their action.
However, Francis Acobi, the District entomology officer has declared that the district doesn’t have money to control the locusts. He says they are waiting on the central government to use the army to control the locusts by spraying.
Alfonse Arocha, the Kole district Human Resources and production Secretary says they have embarked on community sensitization about the locusts as they wait for the government to intervene.
Meanwhile, by Wednesday the locusts were reported in Apala sub-county in Alebtong District. The locusts reported having invaded two villages of Aluti and Telela in Olao-ilongo parish, Apala sub-county in Alebtong District.
Moses Ogwal, the LC1 chairperson of Aluti village confirmed the invasion saying the people are worried that their plantations may be destroyed.
Richard Ayeni, a resident of the area is worried that their food crops may not yield with the locusts on the ground.
Another local identified as Mildred Ogwal, says she is worried that the destruction by the locusts might be worse if they are not controlled early enough.
Meanwhile Munu Sam, the speaker Apala Sub-county warned the people in his area not to eat the locusts for fear of infection.
