Family, UPDF Finally Agree to Bury LC III Chairperson

The family of the late LCIII Chairperson of Rupa Sub County in Moroto district has finally agreed with the UPDF to bury the late Dan Apollo Marjori Lomoyo.

Since December 2019, there has been an impasse between the family and the UPDF over his death. Lomoyo was killed by a UPDF soldier at Kidepo military detachment on 17 December.

He was allegedly shot dead following a disagreement with the UPDF over an operation to impound cattle in Rupa Sub County.

The family has since been demanding for a report on the death, compensation before they can bury.

Emmanuel Tebanyang, the family spokesperson says that a resolution to bury the deceased was finally arrived at following series of meetings with the UPDF over compensation.  He says that the deceased will be buried on 28th of March 2020 at Katum-kasikou Cell in Moroto Municipality.

As part of the family demands, a commission of inquiry on the death of the chairman was instituted to investigate the death of the chairman. It is led by the UPDF Commander Land Forces, Peter Elwelu. However, its findings have not yet been made public.

According to the 3rd Division Public Relations Officer, Maj. Peter Mugisa the report is ready but it has not yet been shared with third division.

The family spokesperson, Emmanuel Tebanyang expressed disappointment over the negotiations and accused the UPDF of showing no responsibility towards supporting the family of the late. He explained that the family wants the UPDF to take over the responsibility of supporting the widows and the children of the deceased.

Maj. Mugisa says three soldiers accused of having had a role in the death of Lomoyo are in the custody.
