Rwanda reported five new COVID-19 cases and two recoveries on Tuesday, April 28, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 212 of which 95 have recovered.
Tuesday results were drawn from 1,505 samples tested.
According to Rwanda’s Ministry of Health, the surge in numbers is attributed to a rise in cases of cross-border truck drivers and their assistants.
Among measures employed by the Government to prevent the further spread of this Virus by these drivers include extending customs clearance, which was previously conducted in Kigali, to border points.
With no reported fatalities so far, the Ministry of Health said in a statement that all active cases are in stable condition at designated COVID-19 treatment centres.
Since March 14 when this pandemic was first recorded in Rwanda, several directives were introduced to curb its spread, the recent ones being the mandatory use of masks in public and in multi-family compounds.
The country is also under a lockdown that will go through Thursday, April 30.
It is expected that a cabinet meeting will be held this week to analyse available information on the progress in containing COVID-19, which will inform the next course of action in regards to the lockdown.
Globally, coronavirus cases have risen to more than three million while the death toll now stands at over 215, 230 and 944, 600 recovered cases.
