COVID-19 UPDATE: Health Ministry tracks Covid-19 positive truck driver in Mukono

MUKONO – A Covid-19 positive fuso truck driver identified as Geoffrey Vitaka driving UBE 564D has been captured at a check point in Mukono by traffic officers along Kayunga junction in violation of the president’s directives of private vehicles carrying passengers.

It’s said that Vitaka brought goods to Kampala and tested positive for coronavirus. He is among the 13 new cases who were being tracked by the Ministry of Health.

Vitaka was stopped while coming from Kampala heading to Mbale with a passenger in his truck. The passenger’s temperature was checked and found that it was too high.

The traffic officers contacted the Ministry of Health that sent 2 ambulances to pick them up. The truck was disinfected taken to police station.

The Spokesperson of Ministry of Health Emmanuel Ainebyona said “We confirmed 13 new cases of truck drivers and embarked on a process of tracking them and put them into quarantine.”

The Ministry of Health reported 13 new coronavirus infections from Friday’s samples, raising cases to 114.
Out of the 13 new cases,7 are Kenyans, 4 are Ugandans while 2 are Tanzanians, the Ministry said on Saturday morning adding that “tracking them has commenced and the public will be informed accordingly.”
