COVID-19 UPDATE: Health Minister Jane Aceng to address nation today as coronavirus cases soar

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng will today Thursday May 14 make her 3rd comprehensive health address to nation on the COVID-19 Response in Uganda.

Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Senior Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health said the 3PM address will be live on all TVs Via the National Broadcaster UBC studios.

“She will be accompanied by the members of the Scientific Advisory committee,” Ainebyoona said, advising TV and Radio stations to pick live feed from UBC.

The address comes at time when Uganda’s coronavirus infections increased by 13 new cases on Wednesday May 14, all truck drivers.

The new cases include 7 Ugandans and 5 Kenyans and 1 Eritrean who arrived in the country from Tanzania, South Sudan and Kenya via Mutukula, Elegy and Malaba checkpoints.

A total of 2,104 samples were tested on Wednesday from truck drivers and the community.

In good news, Arua Referral Hospital also discharged five Tanzanian Truck drivers who had tested positive for the virus.

The official discharge was presided over by the State Minister for Primary Health Care Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu and a team from the World Health Organisation, the Ministry of Health and of COVID-19 task force officials.

Dr Moriku said that the truck drivers, who spent 20 days in the Treatment uCentre were discharged after testing negative to subsequent COVID-19 tests.

She said the discharged cured truckers shall remain at the treatment centre until a communication is received from the Embassy of Tanzania to receive and pick them.
