Govt allows tycoon Ben Kavuya to fly in his family members from US amid lockdown over Covid-19

The government has allowed city tycoon Ben Kavuya to fly in his family members from the United States of America amid the ongoing lockdown over coronavirus.

In a letter to Ethiopian Airlines, Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kuteesa said that the family of the businessman will be allowed to fly into the country via a chartered flight on Monday, May 18, 2020.

This came after the Ministry of Health approved the request by the businessman to quarantine the three Members of his family at his Legacy Apartments in Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb.

Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services, in a May 14, 2020, letter said that the Ministry of Health had inspected his apartment and found it suitable for quarantining the returnees.

Dr Mwebesa added that the family will fly into the country on Monday where a car will be waiting for them and they drive themselves to Bugolobi where they will remain in isolation for 14 days. During this period, he said that the family members will be tested for coronavirus.

The US is one of the epicentres of coronavirus, with close to two million battling the disease.

Kavuya commonly referred to as Chairman is the founder member of Legacy Group. He is responsible for overseeing the development of Rutungu Investments from a small start-up business with a few employees to a multi-million empire as it stands today.

His reputation is one of his greatest assets. He is well known for his entrepreneurialism and foresight, and for his ethical behaviour, generosity and integrity.

Kavuya is the proprietor of Global Capital Saving company Limited. His business deals in money lending and real estate.

He has set up a number of projects under Legacy CSR’s programmes to make sure he makes a difference in society.

The businessman has been known to do anything to please his family. At the wedding of his daughter Blanshe in 2019, Dr Kavuya gifted the couple 100 cows, a luxury home and a plot of land.
