Chaos as RDC Sakwa raids DISO’s office to forcefully resume work, damages property

Embattled Jinja Residence District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Eric Sakwa stormed into the office of the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) and damaged property including a government computer.

Mr Sakwa together with over 30 rowdy youths raided the DISO’s office on Tuesday May 26 at about 4:30 PM.

On entering, according to a video recording, he found the deputy DISO, Mr John Mugomba whom he told that he wanted to work so he should be given the key to his office.

In a trending video, Mr Mugomba claims that he told Mr Sakwa that he doesn’t have the key to the office and it was being kept by the DISO who was not in office at the time.

“They came in a big group and Mr Sakwa demanded for the key to his office. When I said I didn’t have it, one of them caught the laptop with which I was working and three it onto the flow and it got damaged,” hr said.

“This is government property and I don’t know why they would get such anger to vandalise things in a public office,” he said.

The video shows Mr Sakwa demanding the key to his office to resume work—in total violation of a suspension from President Museveni.

“I need the key to my office, I am tired of working from under a tree as if I don’t have an office. I need it right now,” he says.

But he has since refuted the claims of vandalism.

He says that when he didn’t get the key, he marched out of the office.

“I didn’t touch anything and he should come clear on this. I stood four meters away asking for the key which he said he didn’t have and I went out,” he said.

Sakwa was last month interdicted and immediately arrested following his legal woes that stemmed from the death of a one Sanga Charles, a resident of Lwanda Village in Mafubira Sub county Jinja District, who was allegedly tortured on orders of the RDC.

He was later released by court on bail where he was answering to charges of manslaughter, robbery and malicious damage on property.

President Museveni last directed Sakwa to immediately vacate office and only return when the allegations linking him to the murder of a one Isanga are fully investigated and dispose of.

The President said allegations for which his representative in Jinja is being accused of are very grave and he cannot continue holding office in the circumstances.

Sakwa says he never received any letter from President Museveni on the same.

Sakwa is now facing more charges after Mr Mugomba said he reported the matter of attack to his office at CPS Jinja last evening and the officers promised to proceed with investigations.

District Police Commander Jinja, Mr Hasunira Ahmed reportedly told Daily Monitor that Police were handling the matter.
