Implementing facemask-wearing order! Police officer crashes suspect’s vehicle in accident as he drove it to police station

The Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson Vicent Twesigye has revealed that a police officer attached to Kamwenge police station crashed a suspect’s car as he tried to implement the compulsory wearing of masks directive.

“He impounded his [suspect] vehicle, a toyota Wish registration number 899E. The officer allegedly ordered the car owner to surrender the car keys and the officer started the vehicle claiming to take it to the police station as an exhibit,” said Twesigye.

Twesigye revealed that while on the way, Samuel Omala, lost control and the vehicle overturned several times.

“In the course of the accident, our officer’s right leg broke and also sustained other injuries after the steering hit him in the chest,” Twesigye said.

He noted that Omala allegedly drove the suspect’s vehicle without clear orders to do so.

“Perhaps it was not a COVID-19 operation,” he said.

Twesigye added that “The alleged motor vehicle owner was also in the vehicle but survived with no injuries.”
