18 new cases of COVID19 confirmed in Uganda, 12 of them are contact cases while 6 are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan (6) via Elegu and Kenya (2) via Malaba border points of entry, says ministry of health.
This means Uganda’s coronavirus cases have escalated to 507 while those who have gained full recovery from the virus have increased to 82 according to results from samples tested on Tuesday June 02.
The 507 COVID-19 cases in the country are spread in 15 regional referral hospitals including Mbale, Masaka, Gulu, Lira and Entebbe.
Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital has since expanded the ward for COVID-19 patients after admitting 75 new cases within two days.
The surge in the number of patients prompted the management of Entebbe Referral Hospital to expand the ward for confirmed patients.
By Tuesday afternoon, there were 120 confirmed patients and 20 suspects at the hospital.
Sr. Roslyn Walimbwa, the Principal Nursing Officer and Head of the COVID-19 Welfare unit at Entebbe hospital, told URN that management has so recalled 30 staff to resume work.
She said most of those recalled are from the Outpatients, child and maternal care departments that were closed in late March to allow the hospital to focus on Covid-19 management.
