Detained Kagadi NUP Leaders Released on Police Bond

Kagadi-Three National Unity Platform-NUP party leaders in Kagadi district who were arrested on Monday evening are out on police bond.

They are Jocias Tumukwasibwe, the Kagadi NUP Vice-Chairperson, Brian Asingwire, the Buyaga East Parliamentary candidate and LC V candidate, Anna Nasaka.

The trio was picked up for staging processions in Kagadi town council shortly after launching their campaigns at their party offices on Monday.

The procession attracted hundreds of people contrary to the COVID-19 preventive guidelines issued by the Health Ministry and Electoral Commission.

The NUP leaders were also wearing red berets that were banned by security.

The trio has been released from Kagadi Police Station on bond.

Stephen Kamar, the Kagadi District Police Commander, says the trio was charged with holding an illegal procession and failing to adhere to the COVID-19 preventive guidelines and released on bond.

Speaking to our reporter shortly after their release, Tumukwasibwe accused police of confiscating their campaign materials including campaign posters and speakers during their arrest on Monday.
