Two police officers attached to Busia Central Police station and a crime preventer have confessed killing the bodyguard of Busia Municipality Member of Parliament over the weekend.
The suspects are Patrick Javulu, the Officer in Charge of Intelligence, Detective Corporal Stanley Chologoi, the Commandant of the Police Flying Squad Unit in Busia and Aramazan Wansani, a crime preventer.
The three suspects were picked up as prime suspects in the murder of Ivan Kakayi, the bodyguard of the incumbent Busia Member of parliament, Geoffrey Macho.
The incident occurred a short distance from Devine ministries of deliverance in Sofia village in Eastern division in Busia Municipality on Sunday around 11:00 am where the legislator had gone for prayers.
Kakayi was seated in Macho’s vehicle when he was first shot in the neck and fled into the church compound where the assailants followed him and shot him in the head.
Paul Kalikwan, the Busia Deputy Resident District Commissioner, says the suspects have confessed to the crime following rigorous interrogations.
The suspects were driven to Mbale Region Police headquarters before they were transferred to the headquarters of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence-CMI in Kampala.
David Mangeni, a resident in Busia, says the incident has caused mistrust between the police and the community.
George Barasa, the Chairperson of the Association of LC I and LC II chairmen in Busia has appealed to the government to transfer all police officers at Busia central police station.
The Busia District Police Commander-DPC, Moses Kakiryo declined to comment on the matter despite various attempts by our reporter to speak to him.
