Stray chimpanzee injures 1 year old boy in Kagadi

A 1 –year and 9 months old boy is nursing severe wounds at Muhorro Xavier clinic, following an attack by a chimpanzee in Karuswiga cell Muhorro town council.

The victim is Michael Owen, a son of Maureen Kaahwa of Karuswiga cell Muhorro town council in Kagadi district. The incident happened on Tuesday morning

Maureen Kaahwa, says her son was attacked by the wild animal while in the garden.

She says the chimpanzee emerged from a nearby bush and grabbed the little boy.

The child sustained severe injuries around his stomach, arms and was rushed to Muhorro Xavier clinic in critical condition.

Kaahwa  says currently, she is financially constrained and cannot afford the medical bills to treat his son.

Michael Owen is the third child to be attacked by stray chimpanzees from the same village.

An officer from Uganda world life authority, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, says the chimpanzees strayed into the community because all their habitats have been encroached on by the community.
