Kagadi,
Nakamya Kusemererwa, a resident of Itahiro village in Kyezige Sub County, has transformed her life through poultry farming, rising from a small-scale farmer to a self-made millionaire.
Kusemererwa’s journey began with just four birds, but she now boasts over 2,000 exotic breeds, generating a monthly income of 800,000 shillings. Her success is attributed to her determination, hard work, and support from the Uganda Rural Development and Training (URDT) program, funded by the MasterCard foundation.
“I got the startup capital from URDT, and they equipped me with the knowledge and skills I needed to succeed in poultry farming,” Kusemererwa said. “I’m grateful for their support, which has enabled me to become a millionaire.”
Kusemererwa’s poultry project has not only improved her financial status but also created a sense of pride and fulfillment. She encourages youth to venture into agriculture, especially poultry farming, which she believes has immense potential.

“Poultry farming is lucrative, and anyone can make it,” Kusemererwa said. “I started small, but with dedication and the right support, I’ve achieved my dreams. I want to inspire young people to embrace agriculture and create their own success stories.”
Kusemererwa’s success is a testament to the impact of URDT’s programs in empowering rural communities, especially women, to become economically independent. Her story serves as a model for others, demonstrating that with determination, hard work, and the right support, anyone can achieve their goals and improve their lives.
