
The provision of rural water supply and sanitation covers communities or villages with scattered population in settlements up to 1,500 people, and Rural Growth Centres (RGCs) with populations between 1,500 and 5,000.
The Ministry of Water and Environment, through its Department of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, has launched a UGX 4.2 billion solar-powered water supply and sanitation project to address acute water shortages in Kabamba and Bugwara trading centers, Kagadi District.
The announcement was made last evening by Engineer Godfrey Byarugaba, Senior Engineer for Rural Water, who represented the Commissioner of Rural Water during an advocacy meeting at the Kagadi District Council Hall in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district.
According to Byarugaba, the project aims to improve water access in the two trading centers, where current water supply levels stand at just 32% and 18%, respectively.
He expressed confidence that the one-year initiative will significantly enhance water availability and sanitation in the area.
Byarugaba also urged local communities to cooperate with the contractor, GAT Consults Limited, to ensure smooth implementation.
The Kagadi District Lc5 Chairman, Ndibwami B. Yosia, welcomed the initiative and emphasized that it will complement ongoing water programs and boost clean water access.
He called on the contractor to fast-track project execution.
Meanwhile the Buyaga East Member of Parliament in Kagadi district Eric Musana and the Kagadi District Woman Member of Parliament Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi pledged their total support for the initiative.
They urged the contractor to prioritize hiring local labor and ensure fair compensation for those whose land or property may be affected by the project.
