MITYANA
The Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has issued a firm ultimatum to Serbian contractor EnergoProjekt, directing that the delayed Mityana–Mubende Road must be completed by March 2027 or risk contract termination.
Byamukama made the remarks on Friday 12th June 2026 during a site inspection of the ongoing works, which was attended by leaders from Mityana Municipality.
He warned that government will not tolerate further delays or poor-quality workmanship on the key transport corridor.
The minister, who recently assumed office, also pledged a crackdown on corruption within the engineering and contracting sector.
He said unethical practices, including demands for unofficial payments by some engineers, have contributed to delays and reduced quality on major road projects across the country.
He emphasized that stricter supervision and accountability measures will be enforced to ensure value for money and timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
