The government, through the Uganda Land Commission (ULC), has announced plans to issue free land titles to residents occupying 1,189.3 acres of land in Buyaga East Constituency, Kagadi District.
The announcement was made on Friday by Uganda Land Commission Commissioner Johnfisher Kansenge during a sensitization meeting held at Kyomukama Trading Centre in Kagadi Town Council. The meeting was attended by district leaders, ULC officials, local leaders, and residents occupying Plot 9, Block 53.
Kansenge said the government, through the Uganda Land Fund, compensated the family of the late Jackson Lubwama, the former registered proprietor of the land, clearing the way for the occupants to receive legal ownership.
The beneficiaries include residents of Kijonjomi, Nyangereka, Kyomukama A and B, Ihura A and B, and Kigangazi Cell in Kagadi Town Council and Isunga Sub-county.
He said the land titles will be issued at no cost and urged beneficiaries to cooperate with officials during the verification and registration process to ensure smooth implementation.
Buyaga East Member of Parliament Stephen Twesige welcomed the initiative, thanking the Uganda Land Commission for responding to his request to provide free land titles to residents. He called for the verification exercise to be completed quickly so that title issuance can begin without delay.
Kagadi District Woman MP Margaret Naziiwa urged beneficiaries not to sell their land after receiving the titles but to use it as a foundation for household income generation and long-term development.
Kagadi District LC5 Chairperson Elly Gard Tumusiime also welcomed the move, thanking President Yoweri Museveni and the government for helping secure land ownership for the affected residents.
Residents who attended the meeting expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the land titles will provide security of tenure, encourage investment, and protect them from the threat of eviction.
