President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has on Tuesday paid tribute to the late Rt. Gen. Moses Ali, describing him as a patriot, a champion of freedom, a peacemaker, and a leader committed to Uganda’s development.
Speaking during a special parliamentary sitting held to honour the former Adjumani West County MP, President Museveni recounted Gen. Moses Ali’s role in Uganda’s liberation struggle.
He said the late general opposed the dictatorship of Idi Amin, a stance that led to his demotion in the army and eventual exile in 1979.
The President noted that while in exile, Gen. Moses Ali joined other liberation forces in efforts to overthrow Idi Amin’s regime, contributing to Uganda’s eventual liberation.
On peacebuilding, President Museveni said Gen. Moses Ali played a crucial role in promoting stability by resisting violent groups during the early years of Uganda’s post-1980 recovery, helping to lay the foundation for lasting peace.
The President also praised the late general for spearheading key development projects in the West Nile sub-region, including the construction of tarmac roads and the extension of the national electricity grid.
President Museveni urged leaders in West Nile to build on Gen. Moses Ali’s legacy by prioritising household wealth creation and sustaining the region’s socio-economic transformation.
