Police in Kibaale District have recovered five goats believed to have been stolen and arrested two suspects in connection with livestock theft.
The incident happened in the early hours of Monday in Nyamarwa Sub-county, where unknown people allegedly stole four goats belonging to Andrew Businge, a resident of Nyamarwa LC1.
According to the Albertine South Region Police Spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, the owner heard suspicious movements outside his home at about 2:00 a.m. and discovered his goats missing. Together with neighbours, he pursued the suspected thieves and recovered five abandoned goats, four of which were identified as his.
Police later recovered a motor vehicle, registration number UBG 842M, believed to have been used in the theft and arrested Kisembo Fred, a resident of Kagadi District, and Sserukuma John of Kibaale Town Council.
Hakiza says the suspects are being held at Kibaale Central Police Station as investigations continue to establish the owner of the fifth recovered goat and whether more suspects were involved.
Police have urged livestock farmers to strengthen security for their animals and report suspicious movements in their communities.
