Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded two people to Kitalya prison on charges of aggravated torture.
They are Francis Mpande a Police Constable attached to Kibumbiro Police Post in Busega, Lubaga Division and Nabisango Zone Defense Secretary Junior Asiimwe.
The two on Monday appeared before the Chief Magistrate Miriam Akello Ayo .
They were arrested in a joint operation of the army and officers attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Prosecution alleges that Mpande and others still at large on March 27th 2020 while on patrol at Busega Kibumbiro in Lubaga Division, assaulted a seven-month pregnant woman Mercy Nakate.
The suspects, however, denied the charges and were advised to apply for bail on April 27 when they return to court.
Trouble for the suspects started when a video clip showing men in uniform and
others in plainclothes beating Nakate, went viral on social media. The officers
were patrolling Lubaga Division to ensure that residents comply with the
presidential directives.
