The Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, on Friday, May 1 visited ailing Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake at Lubaga hospital.
Zaake is being treated for injuries sustained in what his lawyers allege was torture.
Ms Kadaga was reportedly concerned about the health condition of the MP but was assured by the doctors that he is in a stable condition.
The Speaker was sad that Zaake is in much pain and cannot see properly.
Ms Kadaga joins a growing list of VIPs who have visited the ailing legislator. Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine visited Zaake for the second time on Friday.
Zaake was on Wednesday transferred from Kiruddu hospital to Rubaga hospital.
His wife, Bridget Namirembe told journalists that the MP’s condition
deteriorated on Wednesday morning from Kiruddu hospital where he had
been admitted before he was put on oxygen.
“However, doctors advised that he would need to be in intensive care
unit which Kiruddu hospital doesn’t have and that’s why we asked for him
to be transferred to a better health facility,” she said.
The MP was allegedly tortured in detention following his arrest on April 19, 2020, for allegedly flouting a presidential directive against distribution of food. Police accused the MP of violating the social distancing guidelines put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Sseggona who’s also one of Zaake’s lawyers said they intend to file court suits against individual officers responsible for the MP’s torture.
