One new confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Uganda late Tuesday bringing the country’s total to 98, Ministry of Health (MoH) said.
MoH explained that the new case is a 27- year old truck driver from Kenya who entered the country through the Busia border point.
The confirmed case on Tuesday was part of 2,168 samples of truck drivers that were tested at the national virus laboratory — the Uganda Virus Research Institute.
The health ministry also said that the 464 picked from the community all returned negative for the virus.
Cross-border cargo checkpoints have become Uganda’s new battlefront in the fight against COVID-19, since the country closed all its borders to all traffic except cargo.
President Museveni rejected the idea of blocking truckers to Uganda, saying it was suicidal and unnecessary.
The government however issued strict guidelines that truck drivers from Kenya and other neighbouring countries are to follow in a bid to control the spread of coronavirus.
