Christians and the public have been urged to remain patient and committed in their faith and daily lives.

The call was made by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Tom Butime, in a message delivered on Saturday by the Buyaga East Member of Parliament-elect, Stephen Twesige, during a thanksgiving ceremony held in honour of Canon Desteo Kyeyune and his wife Christine Kyeyune.

Twesige applauded Canon Kyeyune and his family for their unwavering faith in God, noting that their life story serves as an inspiration to many people in the community.

The retired Bishop of Bunyoro-Kitara Diocese, Samuel Kahuma, also commended Canon Kyeyune for his dedication and resilience, especially during his 12 years of service as the Head of Laity in the diocese.

Bishop Kahuma encouraged Christians to embrace hard work, spiritual revival, and commitment, emphasizing that strengthening one’s faith can help believers live meaningful and fulfilling lives.

The Thanksgiving ceremony was held at the couple’s home in Kitegwa Cell, Kagadi Town Council, and was attended by relatives, friends, and well-wishers.

During the celebration, the couple marked several milestones, including 80 years of age, 60 years of marriage, and 45 years of salvation, giving thanks to God for the gift of life.

In his sermon, the main preacher, Dr. Joseph Kusasira, the Team Leader of the Revival Movement in the East Africa region based in Mukono, urged Christians and the general public to dedicate their families—including spouses and children—to God in order to build strong and blessed families.

Speaking during the celebration, Canon Desteo Kyeyune and his wife Christine reflected on their long journey together, particularly their marriage. They acknowledged facing several challenges over the years but said they remained faithful and committed to each other while keeping God at the centre of their lives. Canon Kyeyune attributed their long life and marriage to God’s mercy and protection.
