NAGURU – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the results of the 2019 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at Kampala Parents School.
The results show that there has been an overall improvement in English and Social Studies with the overall pass level of Science improved but there was a sharp decline in distinctions in the subject. Mathematics had a slight improvement.
UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo says the performance has slightly improved.
According to the results, 69,243 (10.1% of the candidates) passed in division one, 318,155 in second division and 140,420 in third division. 89,332 have passed in the fourth division while 66,152 are ungraded.
He has also revealed that English and Mathematics, there was poor performance in questions where students were required to apply knowledge in problem-solving situations or expressing themselves.
Mr. Dan Odongo said results of 1,512 candidates have been withheld pending investigations.
Odongo says the number is much lower than the 3,346 withheld in 2018 PLE.
He said that results of candidates have been withheld over suspected malpractices, pending investigations.
Following the fake papers circulated on Social Media prior to the exams, Odongo says markers found in some candidates’ scripts excuses such as “this is not the paper we are to do,” “this is not our examination”.
He has urged government to develop tougher punishments in the law so as to tame the malpractice.
He said that all candidates whose results have been withheld will be accorded a fair hearing by the Board’s Examination security Committee. Those cleared will have their results released and head teachers can pick up the results at 3pm from UNEB offices in Ntinda.
Janet Museveni, Education Minister says that it is sad to know that teachers and parents are leading students into examination Mal-practices.
She added that some students failed because led them into Malpractice and found different questions in the exams.
A total of 695,804 candidates from 13475 centres were registered for the PLE 2019 examinations. 68.2% of these were beneficiaries of Universal Primary Education (UPE). 31.8% were in private schools
