Lawrence Bukenya is one of two Wakiso Giants FC players who suffered injury during a 2-1 victory over Maroons FC back in February.
Along with Vianne Ssekajugo who would later miraculously recover from a career threatening collision with Maroons goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo, the midfielder was forced off and many thought his season had ended.
However, with the league’s initial break until May 5th, the KCCA FC loanee was given a new lease of life in his pursuit for fitness before the season ends.
With the Uganda Premier League now unlikely to resume at the earlier projected date-due to Coronavirus, Bukenya is almost certain he will be available once again, when action finally resumes sometime in the near future.
Speaking to Wakiso Giants FC.com, Bukenya announced that he is working on his fitness at the moment and claimed he will be 100% in the near future.
“I feel okay now and I believe by the time the league returns, I will be 100% fit, Bukenya noted.
“For now, am working on my own due to the lockdown but will probably resume with my teammates in preparations for the final games.”
Bukenya was forced to seat out three games that proceeded after the late Maroons victory.
The trio of fixtures produced just two points out of a possible 9 for
the Purple Sharks as they drew 1-1 at home to Kyetume, lost 1-0 away to
Busoga United FC and were forced to a 0-0 stalemate against 10-man
Vipers SC.
The poor run of results ensured Deo Sserwadda’s side sit in 10th with 30 points, six above the drop zone.
They will resume the campaign trying to secure their top-tier status at the first time of asking having secured promotion to the top tier last season.
In their final five games, Wakiso have two home fixtures against title chasing KCCA FC and SC Villa. The others are match-ups away from home at Express FC, URA FC and relegation-bound Proline FC.
The Wakissha-based side know that they need to win some of those fixtures to avoid dropping into the relegation-dog fight, a situation Bukenya is well aware of.
“They are big games and we must be at our lethal best to pick good results.” Bukenya commented.
Wakiso who are into the last 16 of the Uganda Cup also face URA FC at the Arena of Visions as they bid to win their first ever title since inception last year.
