Kagadi-Residents of Kiduuma trading centre in Kiryanga Sub County in Kagadi district are set to enjoy reliable and affordable supply of safe water and improved sanitation in their homes.
This comes after the Ministry of Water and Environment ( MWE) under Rural Water and Sanitation Department handed over Kiduuma site to Gat consult LTD for construction of Solar powered mini-piped water scheme.
Nakagwa Jamirah from the ministry of water says the project funded by the African development bank will cost 572m shillings.
The Kiduuma piped water supply system is expected to be complete in June next year.
Speaking at the handover site meeting at Kiduuma trading Centre in Kiryanga Sub County, Jamirah said, in the process of executing all its operations, the Ministry of water is committed to zero tolerance to fraud and corruption as guided by the existing legal national frameworks and institutions
The Deputy DISO Kagadi Michael Bikoopa who represented the RDC cautioned both locals and the contractor on corruption and vandalism of the equipment.
The LC5 chairperson Kagadi, Steven Byaruhanga Mfashingabo asked the contractor to consider employing local people.
He also tasked the locals that will get the opportunity to work with Gat consult LTD to be committed at work.
Mwesigwa Anatole, who spoke on behalf of residents, said the piped water system will reduce on sanitation related diseases.
The function was attended by female district councilor for Paacwa and Kiryanga sub counties Juliet Birungi, District water engineer Bukenya, Deputy CAO Kagadi Fredrick Balemezi, Kiryanga sub county chief Kelvin Kusemererwa and the district communications officer, George Gulyetonda among others.
