Kagadi
Maize farmers in Kagadi district are crying foul over fake agro-inputs in the district.
Speaking to our reporter on Thursday afternoon, the farmers noted that a big number of input dealers in Kagadi sell fake or expired agricultural inputs which they say have left them counting losses.
The most affected farmers are those in Pachwa town council and Kiryanga Sub County.
Michael Rwesemereza a resident of Pachwa town council says that he has lost two acres of his maize after spraying it with fake chemicals named as Metro zines which he purchased from one of the agro input shops in Pachwa town.
He says that the crops dried up shortly after they were sprayed which caused him losses.
Justine Wobyoona, another farmer, explained that she has lost 10 acres of maize.
Wabyoona says they have tried to seek help from the Government and dealers of agro inputs in vain.
Jeramiah Tumuhimbise, a farmer in Kabaseke village Kiryanga Sub County who lost over 5 acres of maize wants the dealers to compensate them.
The agricultural officer of Pachwa town council, Denis Murungi says about five farmers have been affected by fake input.
He blamed farmers for delaying to report the matter to his office.
Murungi is now working closely with Kagadi district production department to fight unlicensed dealers whom he blames for increasing fake agro-products on market
