Most of the cases of suspected Congo Crimean
hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) have been discharged from hospital.
The suspected cases were admitted at Kagadi General Hospital temporary
isolation facility in Kagadi town council Kagadi district.
Last week, the ministry of health confirmed one case of CCHF and two suspects were isolated at Kagadi hospital in Kagadi district, western Uganda.
Speaking in an Interview, the district health officer Kagadi, Dr.James Olowo
said Congo Crimean fever is under control and so far no new cases have been
reported.
He said the two suspects have been discharged as they continue to monitor a 23 year old man who test positive to CCHF.
On Wednesday last week, the ministry of health confirmed Fred Tumwesige aged 23 tested positive to Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in Kagadi District.
Tumwesige, a lumberman and resident of Kisura Village in Bwikara Sub County was admitted at Kagadi general hospital on Monday Last week complaining of fever, headache, abdominal pain, general body weakness and vomiting blood.
The CCHF is a Zoonotic disease that is caused by a tick-borne virus (Nairo-Virus) of the Bunyaviridae family.
This virus causes severe viral hemorrhagic fever outbreaks; it is highly infectious and kills about 40% of people infected.
It is endemic in livestock in Africa e.g. cattle, goats and sheep.
