Police in Namutumba are investigating the death of two children suspected to have been poisoned.
The deceased have been identified as Aaron Mwesigwa 10 and his sister, Esther Tandeke 13.
They are part of the seven family members of Namato village in Namutumba town council, Namutumba district who were admitted at Iganga Hospital on Monday after eating food suspected to contain poison.
Those admitted include Ernesitansio Mutebe, Esther Mutebe, Emerson Masigala, James Waiswa and Beatrice Namuwowola.
Isakwa Mukebele, the deceased’s neighbour says that his colleagues delayed to wake up and he decided to force their door open.
“I left the garden at around 11:00 am but noticed that my neighbours were not awake, so I alerted other residents and we collectively opened the door only to find them lying helplessly on the floor,” he says.
James Wako, a doctor at Iganga general hospital says that the patients are out of danger and will be discharged before the end of this week.
James Mubi, the Busoga East police spokesperson confirms the incident adding that the post-mortem reports indicate that, the deceased succumbed to food poisoning.
