Samples from a suspected coronavirus patient admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital have tested negative.
The samples of the 43-year-old man were on Wednesday taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute- UVRI in Entebbe. This was after he presented himself to the hospital with symptoms similar to coronavirus.
Doctor Stuart Musisi, the Masaka District Health Officer says that results from laboratories at the UVRI in Entebbe have ruled out coronavirus.
He says the patient will continuously be closely monitored by health workers who will also manage the symptoms.
Meanwhile, when asked about Masaka Regional Referral Hospital’s capacity to managing the virus, Dr Nathan Onyaki, the Masaka Hospital Superintendent indicates that they plan to suspend non-critical services at the hospital to create enough isolation space for patients.
He adds that they also asked the Ministry of Health to beef up the hospital’s capacity to carry out spontaneous testing of all people at different points of entry.
On Wednesday, President Yoweri Museveni also issued
directives in which he suspended all forms of public gatherings as a way of
preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
