The officer in- charge of Kigorobya Police Station in Hoima district, Augustus Turyatunga is again on the spot over alleged extortion.
It is alleged that Turyatunga together with other officers under his command raided a mobile money outlet in Kigorobya town council operated by Sam Ziiwa and demanded 50,000 shillings to allow him to operate his business.
When Ziiwa refused to give them the money, they arrested him and whisked him to Kigorobya police station.
According to Ziiwa, he was released after he gave the money to Turyatunga.
Gabriel Makambo, also a resident of Kigorobya town council who is another victim of extortion says he was severely beaten by security operatives under the command of Turyatunga on Monday. Turyatunga accused him of defying the imposed curfew after they found him returning home at around 7:30 pm.
He wonders why Turyatunga’s top commanders have kept a deaf ear despite several complaints.
Friday Christopher also a resident says the officer has turned the curfew operation to terrorize residents and also acquire personal gains by extorting money from the public adding that he has continued to raid people’s homes.
Turyatunga declined to pick our repeated phone calls.
Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima Resident District Commissioner warned officers from extorting money from the public and even torturing people. He says they are investigating the matter.
On Sunday Turyatunga was accused of battering a woman in Kijongo cell Kijongo Sub County. He allegedly beat and injured Anna Mary Katusabe 24, a resident of Kijongo cell in Kijongo sub-county Hoima district.
Turyatunga together with other officers who were under his command raided Kijongo cell claiming to enforce the imposed curfew.
In February, Turyatunga came under fire from his top commanders after he allegedly aided the escape of 70-year-old Keya Kafeero, a resident of Buhirigi LC1 in Kigorobya Sub County who was arrested for allegedly defiling his 5-year-old granddaughter.
