Bwera Secondary School in Kasese District has launched a fundraising drive for rehabilitation of the science laboratory and refurbish of the staff quarters.
The school was founded in 1982 by the parents of Kitalikibi Primary School under the auspices of the Church Of Uganda. The school has a student population of 1,060.
Milton Masereka, the headteacher says, the laboratory which was constructed by parents in 1988 is dilapidated which has affected the teaching of science subjects.
Dan Mugarura, an A-level student pursuing sciences says that they don’t undergo practical because the laboratories are not equipped with appliances.
On staff housing, out of 55 teachers, only 11 are accommodated at the school while others reside outside the school.
Masereka says that lack of accommodation for the teachers has affected the performance of the school since the teachers report late for lessons.
Dr Chrispus Kiyonga, an Old Boy of the school says that they need 335 million shillings to rehabilitate the laboratory and construct staff houses.
