COVID-19: Plenary Adjourned to Tuesday

Parliament has adjourned for a week because of the corona virus pandemic.

The Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga adjourned the house on Tuesday evening and asked legislators to work from home and report back on Tuesday next week.

Earlier on, Kadaga told the legislators that they would process the budget for the 2020/2021 financial year budget electronically to reduce on committee sittings because of the corona pandemic.

She told the MPs that she had called Plenary to alert them on the standard operating procedure of Parliament in the wake of the Coronavirus.

During its normal operations, Parliament sits for three days from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Kadaga’s statement comes amidst the confirmation of nine corona virus cases in Uganda.

Several MPs had earlier called for the suspension of plenary, saying they were not safe from the corona virus threat.

Last week, President, Yoweri Museveni banned public gatherings including congregational prayers in churches and mosques.

He also banned rallies, public assemblies, weddings and concerts among others.
