Police Fire Live Bullets to Disperse Angry Mourners at Funeral of Man Killed by Government Vehicle

A funeral in Rwensonzi Village, Mairirwe Sub County, yesterday (Wednesday) turned chaotic as police fired live bullets during the burial of Magezi Tuhaise, who tragically lost his life after being struck by a Kagadi District Local Government vehicle.

Magezi Tuhaise, a 28-year-old boda boda rider from Rusisa Stage in Muhorro Town Council, was fatally injured on Monday by a speeding vehicle belonging to Kagadi District Local Government, reportedly carrying the Lc5 Chairman, Ndibwami B Yosia.

The incident occurred amidst demonstrations by residents protesting the government’s failure to improve the Muhorro-Ndaiga Road.

Lillian Ruteraho, representing the Kagadi District administration, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of justice.

She announced the allocation of 5 million shillings from the Kagadi district Local Government to support the funeral arrangements.

Mugisa, Chairperson of the Muhorro-Rusisa Boda boda Stage, spoke on behalf of the boda boda community, expressing their grief and solidarity.

Tension escalated when the Kagadi RDC prohibited opposition leaders and aspiring politicians from addressing mourners, fearing a politicization of the event.

This decision led to resistance from mourners, resulting in clashes with security forces who responded by firing live bullets to disperse the crowd.

Magezi Tuhaise is survived by three children and two wives.
