Kyegegwa
A devastating house fire, believed to be a result of arson, has claimed the lives of three family members in Kiremba village, Ruyonza sub-county, Kyegegwa district.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 27, 2024, at around 1:00 a.m.
Kabatangare Paul, the family head, and his two children, Aizuka Emma and Muzuni, succumbed to the fire.
Businge Agnes, the wife of Kabatangare Paul, was murdered in the courtyard as she attempted to rescue their children.
Four siblings, Namanya Annah, Kirabo Swabulah, Kakama Darren, and Tusabirwe Josephine, survived with severe injuries and were rushed to Comprehensive Medical Clinic Mpara.
The family’s daughter-in-law, Ketaranta Christine, suspects that the attack may have been a revenge act by unidentified assailants following a recent court ruling in favor of the deceased over land conflicts.
Locals also believe that the incident is linked to the ongoing land disputes in the area.
The police have deployed heavily in the area, with investigations currently underway.
