The Kagadi District Council has decided to close the Kagadi Community Hall due to its poor condition and inadequate sanitation facilities.
This decision followed an announcement by the District Speaker, Magezi Muwonge, who yesterday relocated the council meeting to the Muhorro Town Council offices because the community hall lacks proper toilets.
Speaker Muwonge emphasized that although the council had previously informed the Kagadi District Local government about the need to renovate the hall, including the construction of toilet facilities, no action has been taken.
As a result, the council’s next scheduled meeting on December 20th will be held at a selected sub-county unless the necessary renovations are completed.
Several councilors have expressed their frustration, blaming the Kagadi District Local government, led by the executive committee, for the failure to provide basic sanitation at the community hall.
They raised concerns about the potential health risks posed by the lack of toilets and stated that they will be willing to travel to other locations for meetings rather than using a facility that does not meet hygiene standards.
The Kagadi District Lc5 Chairperson Ndibwami B Yosia clarified that the district is still working within the constraints of the previous financial year’s budget.
He however says they are in the process of harmonizing construction plans.
He assured that plans for the renovation of the community hall, including the construction of a toilet, will be addressed once the budget allows.
