Kagadi-Kagadi District leaders have warned contractors of Kanyabebe-Kinyarwanda-Bweranyange-Rugashali road against defilement and rape in communities living along the road.
Works on the 12.4km road by ARAHIMAN General Contractors Uganda Ltd will start next week with bush clearing and sensitization of communities along the road on safety precautions.
The construction works will cost Shs 956m but there will be no compensation of the affected persons.
During a site handover meeting at Kanyabebe sub county headquarters on Friday, Kagadi district leaders urged the contractors to avoid a repeat of the Kamwenge District saga where contractors went on rampage defiling girls and raping women leading to cancellation of the project.
The district woman MP Kagadi, Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi who lobbied the 956m shillings from the ministry of works and transport asked residents and the workers of ARAHIMAN General Contractors Uganda Ltd to observe discipline during the implementation of the project.
The LC5 chairperson Kagadi Steven Byaruhanga Mfashingabo vowed to cause arrest of those caught involved in bad acts.
Musa Kimera, the director of ARAHIMAN General Contractors Uganda Ltd says the work will be completed in 6 months.
He says in order to avoid some challenges related to road construction; most of the opportunities will be given to the local people.
The meeting was attended by both technical and political leaders, local leaders and officials from the ministry of works and transport.
