Augustus Turyatunga, the officer in- charge of Kigorobya Police Station in Hoima district has been arrested for allegedly aiding the escape of a defilement suspect.
It is alleged that Turyatunga together with other officers under his command aided the escape of 70-year-old Keya Kafeero who was arrested for allegedly defiling his 5-year-old granddaughter.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that Kafeero escaped from Kigorobya Health Center IV on Tuesday Night where he had been admitted nursing severe wounds that he sustained after being beaten by a mob.
Hakiza says that the OC Station and his juniors tasked with keeping watch of the suspect will all be charged with negligence of duty and Aiding escape of suspect once police investigations are through.
He wonders why the suspect was not handcuffed while at the Health facility.
