Minister Kasaija Launches President’s Emyooga initiative in Greater Kibaale

Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Dev’t Matia Kasaija on Tuesday  launched the presidential initiative dubbed Emyooga in districts of Kibaale, Kagadi and Kakumiro.

Minister Kasaija who is also the MP Buyanja Constituency launched the program at Kibaale District headquarters.

Under this programme each constituency with prepared SACCOs will receive 620millions shillings from micro finance support center that will see each group receive 30 million shillings.

According to the guidelines from Ministry of Microfinance they are beginning with 19-savings groups per district and once they succeed other groups shall be formed to benefit under the same arrangement.

The launch that attracted representatives of boda boda sacco,  Women entrepreneurs Sacco, Carpenters sacco, Salon operators sacco, Taxi operators sacco, Restaurant owners sacco, welders sacco, Market vendors sacco, youth leaders sacco, persons with disabilities sacco, produce dealers sacco, mechanics sacco, tailors sacco, Journalists sacco, performing artists sacco, veteran (veteran window and children sacco and Fishermen sacco.

In his remarks, Kasaija says that however much government has introduced Emyooga program, group members must stick to saving and borrowing as well as wise investment if they are to create wealth.

 At the function, State Minister for Microfinance Hajj Haruna Kasolo said that for a group to benefit, it must be registered by the district community development officer and verified by the Resident District Commissioner and have a bank account number reflecting its usual savings with 6 signatories.

 He has asked district technical staff and politicians to stop telling their voters to just form groups to get money from government but rather educate them on promoting a savings culture for poverty eradication.

 Members of Parliament present was Jenipher K Mbabazi of Kagadi who says the initiative is timely asking the targeted beneficiaries to fulfill all the requirements so that they can get the government funds to boost their community enterprises.
