Bishop Kirabo Inaugurates St. Peter and Paul Parish

The Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, the Right Reverend Vincent Kirabo Amooti, has officially inaugurated St. Peter and Paul Ruteete Catholic Parish in Ruteete Town Council, Kagadi District. The newly established parish becomes the 10th parish in Kagadi Vicariate, carved out of St. Mary’s Kagadi Catholic Parish to bring pastoral services closer to Christians and strengthen evangelization in the area.

Other parishes in the vicariate include St. Thereza Kinyarugonjo, Burora, Mugalike, Kahunda, Rugashali, Mpeefu, Bwikara, Muhorro, and St. Mary’s Kagadi Catholic Parish.

During the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, Bishop Kirabo appointed Reverend Father Patrick Mugisa Kaheesi Junior Amooti as the first parish priest of St. Peter and Paul Ruteete Catholic Parish. He will be assisted by Reverend Father Dennis Jumba.

In his sermon, Bishop Kirabo emphasized the importance of Small Christian Communities (Maju Ikumi), urging Christians to actively participate in them as a foundation for strengthening the Catholic Church. He noted that these communities promote unity, faith formation, and shared responsibility among believers.

The Bishop outlined several factors crucial to the growth of the new parish, including unity among Christians, avoiding domestic violence and alcoholism, prioritizing children’s education, discouraging laziness, and remaining faithful without shifting from one religion to another.

He urged Christians to be prayerful and hardworking, noting that the mission of the Church is to guide believers toward holistic development through education and other initiatives that strengthen the Church.

He also cautioned against time-wasting activities such as excessive football viewing.

Bishop Kirabo further called upon Christians, leaders, and well-wishers to support the new parish both spiritually and materially to ensure its growth and sustainability.

The Vicar of Kagadi Vicariate and Parish Priest, Monsignor Peter Kaberenge, said the creation of the new parish will bring Christianity closer to the people.

Reverend Father Patrick Mugisa Kaheesi Junior Amooti took the oath of office, pledging to administer and lead the new parish in accordance with the teachings and guidelines of the Catholic Church. However, he raised concerns about the poor road network and lack of electricity, which he said could hinder the growth and development of St. Peter and Paul Ruteete Catholic Parish.

The Head of Laity for St. Peter and Paul Ruteete Catholic Parish, Emmanuel Mukiza, pledged to work closely with Christians and parish leadership to make the parish a model and a beacon of spiritual development in Kagadi District and beyond.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kasaija, represented by RDC Kibaale Byaruhanga Stephen Mfashingabo, urged Christians to engage in income-generating projects to uplift the standard of the new parish.

The NRM flag bearer for Buyaga West Constituency, Dennis Namara, pledged to support the development of infrastructure around the parish, including the extension of electricity as requested by the parish priest.

Kagadi District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, said the new parish will significantly contribute to the development of Ruteete Town Council and Kagadi District as a whole.

The historic event was also marked by the celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony, during which eight couples were officially wedded.
