Bunyoro Think Tank, Kingdom Officials, and Stakeholders on Saturday 21 12 2019 met at Starlight Hotel in Kibaale district to develop Bunyoro agenda and also mobilize the people in Bunyoro to harness the emerging local content opportunities in the oil and gas industries.
A one day Bunyoro Think Tank conference 2019, the 3rd in the series of this event to be held annually, attracted the people of Banyoro region from within the Kingdom and the diaspora, government ministers, Members of Parliament and district leaders among others.
This year’s conference was jointly organised by Bunyoro Thinktank in Partnership with Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom under the theme Transforming Bunyoro Together
Some of the topics discussed include, shaping the Bunyoro Agenda, Unlocking Leadership & Political trajectories in Bunyoro, Environment & Climate Change concerns in Bunyoro, Dynamics in agriculture, the Sugar cane economy, and revival of Bunyoro Growers Cooperative Union.
Others were related to Bunyoro region being a sleeping giant, Understanding Land, migrations & settlements in Bunyoro, Health & Education as vehicles for change and Tapping into Multi-culturalism in Bunyoro.
During the conference, a number of resolutions aimed at stabilizing the Bunyoro region once and for all, were reached.
Key of the resolutions was emphasizing the issue of local content in oil and gas industry, stopping government and Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom from leasing and destroying Bugoma forest reserve and rejecting construction of Hydro Power Dam at Murchison Falls.
Others were formation of an elderly forum to help in lobbying services from development partners, forming the directorate of Bunyoro affairs to support the ministry of Bunyoro and emphasis on operationalization of Bunyoro University among others.
Emmanuel Aliba Kiiza, the national secretary for justice and peace for Uganda’s Catholic bishops, promised to spearhead formation of the directorate of Bunyoro affairs to support the ministry of Bunyoro.
However, Dr. Emily Kugonza, the board chairperson of Uganda investment authority clarified that Bunyoro region has just a state minister but not a ministry.
In response, the minister of finance, planning and economic development, Matia Kasaija revealed that ministries at regional level are a duplication of services.
He promised just to inject more money in the office of the state minister for Bunyoro affairs.
