Obote’s brother Akaki dies at 96

Obadiah Akaki, the surviving elder brother of former President Dr Apollo Milton Obote has passed on.

Mzee Akaki died Friday morning at his home in Akokoro, Apac district.

Sam Engola, the NRM National Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda, was the first to send his condolences to the family.

“It was so saddening to learn about the passing on of my beloved friend and the only surviving brother to former President, Dr. Apolo Milton Obote (RIP) Mzee Obadiah Akaki who passed on this morning at the age of 96,” Engola said.

The deceased is an uncle to Lira Municipality MP Akena Jimmy, the son to Obote.

The Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] party president said his uncle succumbed to old age and illness that he has been battling for a long time.

Funeral arrangements will be communicated later.

Obadiah is remembered for having come out to strongly support president Museveni in 2011 despite being a UPC stronghold.
