Residents of Kirombe North B in Akwoyo Parish in Adyel Division of Lira Municipality are in shock after finding their neighbor dead and her roommate unconscious this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Eunice Ojok who hails from Alito in Kole District while her roommate is a one Eveline from Alebtong District. Eveline is admitted at Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
The duo’s neighbor, Eunice Akello, says she suspected that something was wrong after waiting for her neighbors to open their door in vain.
According to Akello, Eveline had earlier on crawled outside and vomited in front of the house before returning back.
Eunice says the two girls who were involved in selling charcoal and yams were peaceful and didn’t have a grudge with anyone in the neighborhood.
The girls are reported to have stayed in the area since December 14th, 2019. The deceased’s landlord, Nixon Okonye says he was notified by the other tenants who had seen that the girls unwell.
He says went back to check the house only to find one already dead and another unconscious.
Scene of Crime of Officers visited the girls room and recovered samples of cooked chicken, fried beans and cassava for testing. This will help rule out or confirm speculations that two could have eaten poisoned food.
Wellborn Geoffrey Otema, the Officer in Charge of OC Starch factory police station, says they have commenced investigations to establish the case of death. He advised LCs to keep proper records of in their areas of jurisdiction.
In another incident, police recovered a decomposing body from a swamp, approximately 1Km from where the girls died.
They were unable to establish the identity of the deceased and have since handed over the body to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for Post mortem.
