Over 2000 school girls impregnated during lockdown in Kakumiro district.

KAKUMIRO-Over 2000 schools girls have been impregnated during the covid-19 lockdown spanning from 2020.

This has been revealed by the Kakumiro district Education Officer David Kyahurwa while speaking during a stakeholder’s engagement with officials from the education ministry  on Tuesday.

He says that because of the lengthy lockdown on schools, some learners more especially vulnerable schools girls have ended up with unwanted pregnancies while others have gone into early marriages.

Hajji Musoke Abrey from the ministry of education says that before schools can be reopened, all teachers must first get vaccinated against covid-19.He has called for mass mobilization of teachers to interest them in taking the covid-19 jabs.

In Kaumiro district, about 80 percent of teachers have been vaccinated.

Kyahurwa says that more two vaccination centers have been put up at St Joseph Primary school, Igayaza and Kisiita primary school in Kisiita to cater for teachers.

Hajji Musoke says that several strategies are being sketched to ensure that all learning needs of all pupils are catered for once schools are reopened
