The former Kabale District Forestry Officer, Michael Besigye has been killed.
Besigye, 63, who is also Kicumbi parish councilor, was found with a slit throat slit in the wee hours of this morning in Kashenyi village.
His daughter, Flavia Natukunda, says Besigye left the bed around 05:00am to answer nature’s call in the toilet. She however, says her mother, Agatha Oworinawe waited for Besigye to return in vain.
Natukunda says her mother was shocked when she went to check on her husband in the toilet and found him lying dead in a pool of blood.
Natukunda says that Oworinawe made an alarm thinking that Besigye had suffered cardiac complications but they realized his throat had been cut.
Brian Ampeire, the Kabale District Police Commander says they deployed a sniffer dog, which failed to trace the killer since residents had tampered with the crime scene.
He says after the incident, residents carried the deceased’s body from the crime scene to his house.
Ampeire says they have only managed to recover the machete, which was used to cut the deceased’s throat.
He says five who participated in carrying the body are being held at Kabale central police station to help in investigations.
Elias Twesigwomwe, the Kamuganguzi Sub County LC 3 chairperson, says Besigye’s killing brings to three the number of such incidents in Kicumbi parish within less than three months.
Twesigwomwe says the parish has many criminals that need to be dealt with.
